In Freedom We Trust…

In Freedom We Trust

I look all about and see an abhorrent lie—

One that deafens ears and blinds the eyes.

Because after the self-seeking lust and the decadent deals,

Beyond the endless drinks and unholy meals,

There’s a sinister figure lurking within the dark

Aiming small, not to miss the mark—

For the bullseye is no longer to disrupt God’s plan

But instead is to create a god-like man.

This man never seeks to cause any pain,

In fact, he’s far different from the murderous Cain.

Instead, the world is a playground without truth,

No common courtesy or generalized couth.

Indeed, we’ve passed a turning point in our history

Where the meaning of life is no longer a mystery.

We’ve been duped into thinking that the meaning is me,

And all that’s alluring about being free.

At the end of the road, however, a light shines darkly

It beams and broods and menaces starkly

With a truth revealed that divided the Earth—

A dream conceived by the Virgin birth.

Except, you see, it wasn’t a dream or miraculous tale

It’s the story of the only man who didn’t live to fail.

I confess that the story was never about me at all,

Not my freedoms or choices or specific call

Instead, it is God’s redemption in spite of the Fall,

That he still loved his Creation after all.

And his greatest glory will be revealed in His-own-story,

About how mercy and love rescued mankind from freedom.
